Mini Lesson #1 : Foot Pivoting
Pivot your foot 180-degrees (backwards or one-half turn) for Side Kick and Roundhouse Kick.
Follow These Steps:
- Pivot your foot backwards
- Chamber your leg
- Lean back, not foward
- Snap the kick out of the chamber
- Return the kick back into the chamber
Why Do We Perform This Technique?
- It avoids injury to your ankles, knees, and hips
- Gives your kicks greater height, reach, power, and accuracy
- Allows you to perform better kicks in your kicking techniques, sparring, and forms
- Shows proper skills in belt promotion testing and tournaments
- Avoids being corrected on technique during kicking routines and free sparring
Exceptions:
- When performing an Angled Roundhouse Kick
- When performing an Angled Side Kick
